Bob’S HISTORY BLOG

Robert J. Murphy, former city historian and past president of the Beacon Historical Society, was a master storyteller and writer. Bob wrote a variety of fascinating articles for what we affectionately call “Bob’s Blog.” You can use the magnifying tool in the upper right corner to search for a particular subject. In addition, his popular monthly newsletter of 38 years was compiled and edited by Denise VanBuren in Beacon’s Memorykeeper and Storyteller: Robert J. Murphy.

September Meeting: Don’t miss your chance to learn more about a great (but little known!) chapter of our city’s history! On September 23, we welcome researcher, historian, author and Beacon native Chris Cring for his talk on “How Alexander and Elizabeth Hamilton’s Time in Beacon Helped Shape a Nation — and Other Revolutionary Surprises.” Chris has published several books about the Revolutionary period and his presentation will be sure to enlighten us about our community’s involvement in this epic struggle for independence 250 years ago!

We gather September 23 at 7 p.m. at the Elks Club, whom we thank for hosting us. If you are unable to join us in person, we make every effort to stream our monthly meetings live via a Zoom link on the front page of our website at BeaconHistorical.org. Previous meetings can be found under the Past Events tab on that same website.
